Susan L. Poplar

barrington lawyer Susan L. Poplar

After working as a licensed realtor on the North Shore from 1976 through 1981, Susan decided to seek a law degree so she could handle real estate matters as an attorney. Since 1995, she has represented clients in the Barrington area with an office in downtown Barrington on Main Street, and an office in the North Shore area. Her legal practice during this thirty-year period included legal work in real estate, estate planning, and business law throughout Chicago, the North and Northwest suburbs, DuPage, and McHenry counties.

Susan earned a B.A. degree from Lake Forest College, in 1991. She entered The John Marshall Law School in Chicago and earned her J.D in 1994. While in law school, Susan clerked for a year in the Employment Law Department in the Daly Center. In the summer, she worked as an aid at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services which provides legal aid for low income residents of Cook County that included divorce, adoption, foreclosure, and landlord disputes.

After Susan opened her law practice, she worked as a volunteer for Prairie State Legal Services in Waukegan assisting people living in poverty to find equal justice in the legal system on various matters. She is a member of the following legal associations: Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), Northwest Suburban Bar Association, ISB Real Property Law, ISBA Trusts & Estates, and the Illinois Real Estate Law Association (IRELA).

Susan is a founding member of a woman’s Better Investment club in the Northwest suburbs that began in 1996. The club is still meeting on a regular schedule as they review and continue to add and grow their portfolios. Susan enjoys meeting people. She has represented many of her clients and their families for years, which is a gratifying experience. She enjoys cooking and sharing hospitality with friends and family as well as gardening and reading.
